04 REFRAMING HENRIKSBERG
PLACE: HENRIKSBERG
YEAR: 2023An extension has been added to Hägerstens Allé 80, located in the industrial area of Henriksberg, Stockholm. The building will be torn down to make space for housing, but still has about 5-20 years left of use. Throughout the day, numerous people walk past the building, unknowing of its potential. It is used as a wood shop during the weekends but remains unnoticeable for most people passing by. In this project, I have explored how to change the perception of the building, make it more inviting for a new group of users, and consequently making sure it is used and cherished.Parts of the original building have been moved to reudce costs and resources. The extension can be moved after the building has been torn down and reused for new purposes.
The extension has been design using simple construction techniques and the tiles on the facade can be made by hand and fired by the local community. By inviting people to participate in the creation of the extension I hope to open up Henriksberg to its neighbours. The act of participation will also contribute to the experienced value of the building and will hopefully help putting it to use in the future.
